Lauren (Lori) Kovatch Long grew up in Charlottesville, Va with her always supportive family, Nancy and Rich her
parents and one brother, Ricky. She was introduced to horses at the age of 8 at the farm of Sally and David Lamb
and built her love for horses into a solid riding career. She spent much of her young life at Brookhill Farm, owned
by the Beegle Family. Here she learned how to be a hunter/jumper, fox hunter, polo player and groom, teacher,
trainer, seller, manager and an adult. This was also where she found her wonderful mare, Wildflower (Flower).
She soon found Flower was not suited for the hunter/jumpers, and decided to take a David and Karen O'Conner
Event Clinic. Here they found their passion. Lori & Flower went off to college in 1997 after competing in their first
Horse Trials, placing 5th in the Novice division. At Sweet Briar College Lori worked with Paul Cronin and was able
to compete at both the hunter/jumpers and eventing. She met Emily Mastervich Beshear, a top 3-Day Eventer, in
the summer of her Sophomore year. She worked as Emily's working student in exchange for coaching and tons of
experience within the Eventing world. Emily was able to coach Lori through Preliminary level before she had to
return to school. Lori graduated from Sweet Briar in 2001 and decided to make use of her Biology degree by
working for the up and coming biotechnology company, ImClone Systems. This allowed Lori to have many worldly
experiences with a company that made it in the news a few times that year. While working at ImClone, Lori was
able to ride and compete Flower, get her Masters degree in Microbiology from Seton Hall University and meet
Brian Long.
Brian Long grew up in Neptune City, NJ with his family, Jack and Jackie, his parents, and Stephen and Kevin, his
brothers. Growing up so close to the beach Brian is an avid body boarder. His love for the ocean kept him close to
the beach. He and his brothers spent many hours with their Aunt Lindy (Carolyn). Brian picked up mountain
biking and golf as additional hobbies and worked for Sports Authority using his knowledge in both to help him
become a master tech. and golf specialist. While working full time at Sports Authority he attended school to get a
degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology. In 2004, his roommate introduced Brian to Lauren. Lauren introduced
Brian to the horse world. Being a lover of animals he fell in love with Flower and soon learned how to be a groom
to Lauren on the farm and at competitions. Brian's love of the water got Lauren to the beach, surfing and sea
kayaking together. They make a great team.
Through Brian and Lauren's relationship a friendship arose with Lauren and Brian's Aunt Carolyn. They both had a
mutual desire to find a wonderful home for their horses and decided having their own farm would be the best
option. Brian and Lauren, being ready to move from New Jersey, quickly jumped at the chance to live and manage
the farm in Kentucky. It is a wonderful dream come true.
