Hello All!!!!
What a fabulous weekend BVEC event team had. We got up to Hoosier horse park on Friday afternoon to find out that there were 75 more people allowed to enter the show this year and thus there would be no tack stall. So sad. But we got a great park place for the trailer right next to our stalls. How lucky was that.
We had great ride times on Saturday for dressage and stadium. Emily and Katie started out or day with their first USEA ride. What a great test, very relaxed and accurate! She scored a 38. Her best dressage score ever. This put her in 9th out of 18. I went next with Rio. He was being such a good boy warming up but he really hated his braids...poor guy. First time for braids..I think he thought he was being punished for something. He worked through it and he also had a great test, with a mule and dog distraction he was able to put in a wonderful 36.5, making him 6th. Megan then rode Gem and boy did they show me that they could do it. It was a wonderful test! Best dressage I have ever seen Megan ride. She scored a 36 to put her in 9th.
Stadium came next, I led off the rides in the afternoon. Rio decided he did not want to touch anything, which I was happy about but he also thought he knew better than I did. So we went double clean but I wasn't horribly please with his round. We were 3rd after stadium. Emily went next, having a wake up call in warm up with an unchararteristic stop out of Katie at the cross rail. Emily stepped it up in the ring and had a great double clear round moving her to 6th. Megan and brought up the rear. Having to wait around about an hour, she went in and put in a double clear round too.. Woohoo.... she too end in 6th. What a GREAT saturday.
Sunday brough cross country. The course seemed very inviting with some scary parts....the ditch and water. Since this was everyones first USEA competition with their horse or in general it was a little nerve racking. I went first with Rio and boy....he is just a cross country machine!!!!!! He cruised around that course like it was nothing, he didn't take a wrong step. He did take apparently fast steps because what I thought was a nice gallop had us very close to speed faults so we had to trot at the end of the course. We finished on our dressage score in 2nd place!!!!!
Emily went next, and you could tell she was excited but nervous. Katie didn't give her a warning wake up call in warm up but she sure did at the first fence on course. So with a stop at jump one, Emily put it into high gear and made it around the rest of the course with ease. The water which is what made her really nervous was not problem. With a great first competition under her belt she is looking forward to the next one!!!
Megan and Gem went last. Gem started calling for Rio and Rio was not helping the situation as Gem made his way to the start box, but Megan just went with the flow and made him pay attention to his job. The had a wonderful round that was double clear...not even a hint of an issue at the water!!!! Yippy! Megan finished out the day in 5th place!
WHAT A GREAT SHOW. I am so proud of our horses and our riders. We also had some great help this weekend from Carolyn and Diane. With the three horses and our times all pretty close, they had to do a lot of back and forth and goffering.... We really appreciate their help and their cheers. This show was tons of fun and we will be back again next year.
